Training Methodology

I like a well rounded horse with a good sense of themselves. A horse with a lot of positive experiences has a good head on their shoulders. I don't believe in skipping steps or rushing horses, they all learn at different speeds.

Young Horses

Exposing horses to many situations helps them accept lifes ordeals. These obstacles are also useful to adult horses that are nervous or just don't pay attention to you. Don't let a young horse sit idle, teach him something.

Dales Ponys @ Briar Hill Farm

My friend Harriet introduced me to the Dale Pony Breed last winter. The Dale is a horse in a ponies body. They are a solid size with-out feeling drafty. Many of the English farmers spent more waking hours with their ponies than their families. This led to breeding for temperment as well as a good work horse.

I am not one to adjust to change easily.
I have always felt that people treat hoof care simular to our political views, either very right wing, "we've been doing the shoe thing for hundreds of years with no problem, let it be", Or, very left wing, "horses run naked, let them be" . I have always felt I found myself in the middle and now I found my commom ground. The easy care company not only gives my horse a great traction alternative, but is also not nessesarily permantent, but is worth all the rigorous tests.

V.E.R.D.A. I had the honor this summer of having a 30 mile competetive trail ride go right past my house. I had a watering trough for the horses and gave juice to the riders. I hope they do this route again, I had so much fun.

End of the Day

Today was a great day at the farm. The rain teased me into putting on my raincoat, only to take it off a minute later. Then it was hot and eventually cool. Right before the sun settled behind the horizon, the predicted thunderclouds rolled in and let go of some heavy rain. Almost as fast at it came, the storm left, leaving behind a double rainbow.

I also turned two of the horses out in the back pasture. It is always so fun watch them tear it up, literally. In the back of my mind I am thinking "Thanks guys, now I am going to have to walk around and push down the divits"

Doc is the newest addition to Dobush Farm. He is a Cleveland Bay X Appendix Cross. Doc has big boots to fill. I want him to drive like Zenon, and event like Noodle. It is fun have a young one on the farm again.

All of the projects I have been dreaming about doing I can finally get to. Its that short window between snow and overabundant growth. This is the time to fix stone walls, turn compost, trim trees and clean up after a long winter.

Sue Rogers-ADVANCED DRIVING

Sue Rogers competes with Noble Gesture successfully at the Advanced single pony level at combined driving events from as far North as Bromont, Canada to the Southern parts of the US at The Laurels in Pennsylvania. She is long listed with the United States Equestrian Team. Sue is available for lessons and clinics, and coaching.

Brianna summer 08

Only recently in my career have I began giving lessons to children. What used to make me nervous, now gives me great satisfaction. Children are sponges for information. Riding is only a tiny portion of the lesson, horsemanship and responsibility are major.

Meadow is owned by June and George Truesdale of True Meadow Farm. I started "Meadow" under saddle for them this past fall. Then this March I got to really put some time into her and polish her up.

Grace

Grace is a Standardbred pacer from off the track. She is owned by a fellow horsewoman. Knowing this womans great repore with horses, I am honored she asked me to help in Graces development.

Foster Horse in need of Adoption

The Lights are On is a 10 year old, 16 hand high Ex-racehorse. Aka " LAO, has had ample time to adjust to his new lifestyle off the track. He is bold going out by himself, and great with other horses too. LAO has been trail ridden, done some work over fences and is traffic safe.
