My friend Harriet introduced me to the Dales Pony Breed last winter. The Dales is a horse in a pony's body. They are a solid size with-out feeling drafty. Many of the English farmers spent more waking hours with their ponies than their families. This led to breeding for temperment as well as a good workhorse.
Even if you are having a bad day, it is hard to hold a grudge after riding in this ring.
When I started riding in other peoples rings, I decided I wanted to make a calendar of beautiful riding rings. Marcys would be top on my list.
Duke is Marcys first Dales stallion. She came about him through some great coincidences. Ask her about it when you meet her. I always feel we meet horses for a reason, whether to learn from them or to give them a better home.
I thought Dales only came in Black, but for every assumption there is always something to prove you wrong.
The farm of Marcy Briar feels like it is on top of the world. It is a beautiful place to raise ponies, especially this English breed that is used to this type of terrian.
Curious mares..... have foals that take initiative to meet you.
This is my friend Harriet. She introduced me to the Dales breed last winter. Templeton and Quincy are full brothers with different personalities, but both are fast learners.
The foals at Briar Hill are well socialized with people. The curious mares had curious foals, just as the aloof mares has cautious foals. Even at only a few months old, the foals had their own personalities.
You can already tell this foal will grow up to be a show stopper, just look at his presence!
